Ten melon-headed whales were discovered stranded along the coast of Western Australia, prompting warnings about increased crocodile and shark activity. The discovery occurred near Crab Creek in the Kimberley region, with authorities urging the public to avoid the area.

Authorities in Western Australia are issuing warnings about an elevated risk of crocodile and shark encounters following the discovery of ten melon-headed whales stranded along the coast. The situation began on Monday when three melon-headed whales were first reported beached near Crab Creek, a remote location in the Kimberley region. Park and wildlife officers responded promptly, finding an additional seven deceased whales yesterday, bringing the total to ten.

The WA Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions reports that seven of the whale carcasses have been successfully removed and disposed of safely. Biological samples were collected from three of the carcasses for analysis and testing purposes. Those whales located in inaccessible creeks and mangrove areas will be left in situ to decompose naturally. The increased presence of whale carcasses has heightened the risk of attracting sharks and crocodiles to the area. As a precautionary measure, the WA Parks and Wildlife Service strongly advises the public to avoid the area to ensure their safety
