Supercars: We take a look back at some of the best moments in Bathurst history, with the great race coming up this weekend.
Ryan Wood’s motorsport rise has been meteoric, but his debut Supercars round brought him back to earth with a thud.
“To try and hopefully get past turn 1 without any incident will be the first goal,” he laughs to Fox Sports. “And then once we do that we’ve got 161 laps to get settled into a groove.”The event is unique in the Supercars landscape. Twice the distance of its Sandown curtain-raiser and far more gruelling than any other race in the series, the event stands separate as a challenge at the demanding Mount Panorama track.“There’s nothing like it in our calendar,” he says.
It’s a challenge enhanced by being only his second race sharing his car with another driver, following his first Supercars endurance event at Sandown last month. It leaves Wood confident of a strong performance this weekend despite a tough first showing at Sandown that returned just 15th place from 10th on the grid.
“We’ve had a really good year so far, and that’s just one of those little speed bumps that we’ve hit, but we know we can put our head down and move on from it. It’s exciting this weekend.”Wood said WAU could draw strength from its strong four-driver line-up to raise the standard across both cars at a circuit the team has traditionally done well at.
