Chinese actor Jackie Chan, 70, was one of the A-listers spotted amongst the thousands of spectators at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena to watch the finals over the weekend. The Rush Hour star was seated front row for the game between Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka and American Madison Keys on Saturday, then on the expensive court sideline seats for German Alexander Zverev against Italian Jannik Sinner the following night. The popular actor had hours before the match met with Sabalenka, with photos and videos emerging of the pair chatting in Melbourne Park on social media. The women's No.1 went on to lose to Keys in a thrilling three set 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 decider that saw the American claim her first Grand Slam singles title in her long career.Photos showed the pair shaking hands in the underground tunnel of the players area.He also met with Alexander Zverev. "She doesn't know it yet, but she has Jackie Chan to thank for shaking Sabalenka's hand. In Asia, Chan has a reputation for being a kiss of death when it comes to who/what he supports or endorses," Kevin Yam wrote to X."And Jackie Chan has made it 2 our of 2 in the singles championship, with Zverev also being jinxed out. Sinner should thank Chan for his back to back titles," he said. The Karate Kid actor was also flagged down by women's player Jelena Ostapenko for a photo ahead of her doubles final match against the top seeds on Sunday.Another post joked about the"Jackie Chan Effect".Chan on the court sidelines of the men's final on Sunday. Picture: Graham Denholm/Getty Images While Chan is one of the most recognisable faces for his countless action films, he is also infamously known in Asia for having a"curse" outside of his acting.Between 2005 to 2012 Chan was the famous face promoting and later partnered with California Fitness Gym, which had clubs in China, Hong Kong and Singapore. By 2016 it was reported to be owing $HK160 million in rents and operating costs, with many of the clubs later closing shop. Fen Huang Cola, which had many years earlier hired Chan to also be the official brand ambassador, closed due to plummeting sales.
