It follows the New South Wales government's decision to fly the flag year-round committing $25 million to install a third flagpole. 9News

The flag has been displayed on the bridge during Reconciliation and NAIDOC weeks since 2019.READ MORE:"The West Gate Bridge is one of our most visible landmarks now, the thousands of motorists who use the bridge every day can view the Aboriginal flag flying proudly above our city," Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll said.It follows theChair of the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation Kelly Lehmann said the move was "significant".

"The Aboriginal flag represents inclusiveness, recognition and respect and having it flown permanently atop the West Gate Bridge demonstrates this commitment to Aboriginal communities in Victoria," Lehmann said. "This is a significant first step, and we look forward to seeing ways in which the Torres Strait Islander flag can also be flown in the future."

Work is now underway to determine whether it's feasible to also fly the Torres Strait Islander and Victorian flags on the bridge.
