Queensland and Western Australia are bracing for intense heatwaves throughout the remainder of the week, with temperatures projected to soar above 40 degrees Celsius. Severe heatwave conditions are anticipated across vast swathes of both states, as scorching temperatures continue to dominate the region.Sky News Weather Meteorologist Marina Neumann revealed that temperatures will steadily climb from Bundaberg down to the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.
Residents in Brisbane can expect a high of 36 degrees Celsius, while some inland areas may experience temperatures exceeding 40 degrees. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued an alert stating, 'Severe heatwave conditions are building over broad areas of southern and central Queensland this week and are expected to persist over inland parts until at least next week.'Locations likely to be affected include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Clermont, Dalby, Emerald, Gladstone, Goondiwindi, Longreach, Rockhampton, Roma, and Stanthorpe. However, a milder southerly change is predicted to bring some respite to eastern Queensland over the weekend, ushering in cooler weather. Meanwhile, Western Australia has also been grappling with extreme heat, with record-breaking temperatures recorded on Tuesday. Sky News Weather Meteorologist Rob Sharpe noted, 'In Perth itself it was the hottest day in a decade ... and two-and-a-half decades for Perth Airport. 'Geraldton equalled the record that was set just last year. 49.3 degrees. Some incredible heat on the west coast.' The severe weather warnings come as extreme heatwave conditions developed on the Central Wheat Belt on Wednesday, anticipated to ease slightly to 'severe heatwave' conditions by the end of the week. Locations likely to be impacted by Western Australia's sweltering conditions include Perth Metropolitan Area, Carnarvon, Denham, Geraldton, Gingin, Kalgoorlie, Kalbarri, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, Mandurah, Newman, and Northam. Warm weather is expected to envelop much of the nation, with 43 degrees Celsius forecast for Alice Springs, 35 degrees Celsius for Sydney, and 37 degrees Celsius across Perth. Heatwaves are also building up over northern parts of New South Wales including Byron Bay, Glen Innes, Inverell, Moree, Murwillumbah, and Tweed Heads, which will be impacted over the next few hours. The high temperatures are not expected to last long, with the afternoon anticipated to bring a sweeping change in weather, forecasting thunderstorms into the evening.
