Cricket Australia is bracing for the prospect of having play suspended during the Sydney Test because of the smoke from raging bushfires across NSW | wutube
The final day of the Sheffield Shield match between NSW and Queensland was played in thick smoke. Players said the conditions were "worse than India".
"It's unlikely, we believe, it will be there for a full day. We might see some challenges across that day but we'll play it like rain or adverse weather that time can be added on any given day and hopefully we get a really good Test match. Under International Cricket Council guidelines, match officials can consider suspending play when the air quality index reading nears 300. Air quality is considered "hazardous" at 300.
"In line with ICC, Australian Institute of Sport and relevant government guidelines, we are maintaining vigilance on the ever-changing air quality in locations where games are impacted by poor air quality.
