The Samurai Blue were dominant in the 4-1 pasting over Germany and a familiar face did the damage.
It was a watching brief for Celtic heroes Kyogo and Daizen Maeda as they had a front row seat to Japan wiping the floor with a beleaguered Germany.
The Samurai Blue were dominant in the 4-1 pasting and it leaves under-fire Hansi Flick sweating over his job as Japan once again outfoxed him less than 12 months out from a tournament on home soil. And while boss Harijame Moriyasu was quick to point out it's a team game, however, the display of the mercurial Ayase Ueda is grabbing the headlines in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Celtic stars were lapping it up the international triumph, of course, but they will return to Lennoxtown with a warning over the Feyenoord star and his match-changing abilities. Ueda will reunite with Kyogo, Maeda and fellow Japan international in nine days' time for the crunch Champions League opener in the De Kuip.
It's a mega match for both and Ueda appears primed for a key role after he was handpicked by Arne Slot to replace Danilo after his £5million move to Rangers. But, unlike the Brazilian, Ueda appears a bonafide contender to startin the long term for Feyenoord – not bad for a £2m net spend after he joined from Brugge.
Ueda was a goal machine for Kashima Antlers before he headed to Belgium and now will aim to cause Celtic agony with his national team pals in close attendance once more.
