A £750 per year deal for the Barlia Sports Complex, which is owned by the council, has been agreed with Castlemilk Community Football Trust.
A football trust which is providing “something special” for the Castlemilk community has been granted a 25-year lease for council-owned sports facilities.
Cllr Ruairi Kelly, the council’s convener for neighbourhood services and assets, said: “The successful operation of the Barlia sports complex by Castlemilk Community Football Trust is another — and outstanding — example of what can be achieved through our People Make Glasgow Communities programme. In Castlemilk, the trust has been running the Barlia complex, which opened in 1992, since June 2022. It is home to 24 football teams and also used to provide football camps for local children in school holidays. They are also able to use the pitches when they are not in use by teams.
At a meeting of the city’s contracts and property committee, Cllr Stephen Curran, Labour, said he was “really excited” by the deal.
