A man has died in a horrific conveyor belt accident at a workplace in Perth’s south. 7NEWS

were called to the North Coogee site about 5.20am. The man died from his injuries at the scene.

Forensic officers spent the morning collecting evidence as Department of Fire and Emergency Services firefighters disassembled the machine.The horrific way the man died has left colleagues traumatised, with 7NEWS observing staff members crying and consoling each other after the death. Firefighters disassembling the conveyor belt after a man became trapped and was killed in the machine.WA Salt Supply says it has commissioned an independent investigation into what went wrong.

“This is a devastating day for everyone at WA Salt, and our thoughts are with the deceased’s friends, family and colleagues at this extremely difficult time,” the company said in a statement. “Employee safety and wellbeing is our highest priority and counselling has been made available for all employees.”“Our thoughts go out to the workers at the site, as well as the family members and those who have unfortunately had to respond to this incident,” he said.Whittle said there had been about 20 workplace deaths in WA over the past 12 months, prompting the state to introduce new workplace safety laws three months ago.
