The story then went on to claim that Mokbel had recently "intervened in a prison standover scheme, disrupting an extortion racket being run by Pacific Islander inmates".An inmate was injured after he stepped in to project Mokbel.

"Teuira pulls a 'shiv' from his shorts and crouches over Mokbel and appears to be stabbing him in a frenzied motion up to seven times," prosecutor Kristie Churchill told the Victorian County Court. Several of Mokbel's teeth were knocked out in the assault and he was left with displacement of the brain, skull fractures and stab wounds.

The pair had to be brought to the ground by guards who swarmed in with other inmates after the attack.
