LIVE: RFS prepares for bushfires as extreme heatwave hits state
A red sunrise under a plume of bushfire smoke over Bilpin this morning spells more danger for the fruit bowl area again today, parts of which were already burnt when the Gospers Mountain fireEarly westerly winds have already got the fire south of Bilpin moving east. A southerly change in the afternoon is expected to put homes under threat.
If you are not prepared to the highest level, the advice is to leave early in the day, before the fire becomes a direct threat and potentially cuts off your escape route. The Department of Planning and Environment has predicted "poor" air quality for Thursday, and that could worsen with the arrival of bushfire smoke.
NSW Health encouraged people to take extra precautions to protect themselves against the bushfire smoke on Thursday, particularly the elderly and parents and carers of young children. Those people were urged to stay indoors, shut windows and where possible postpone outdoor activities.
