A Victorian man has been fined $5000 for pretending to be a registered nurse while applying for jobs, Ahpra said on Thursday. He had provided a potential employer with a fake registration document in April 2022, but a crosscheck of the register of practitioners drew a blank at his name, and he was reported to the regulator. The man had once been a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, but his registration had been “surrendered” in June 2021, Ahpra said.

Magistrate Angela Bolger, said “the production of a false document was a particularly aggravating feature”. She called the charges brought against the Victorian man “remarkably serious”. Before he faced court on Thursday, the Victorian man was previously a no-show at a sentencing hearing on April 14, 2023, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
