After spending six months bowling bumpers at the heads of Cricket Australia, Seven’s James Warburton is celebrating a seven-year sports rights deal to 2031.

However, it could be argued that the players have less work to do because the Big Bash League will have about 30 per cent fewer games. But Foxtel does have pressure on its profit margins from the switch by Foxtel residential customers to the sports streaming service Kayo, which is growing strongly.The typical Kayo subscriber is paying about $27.50 a month for a basic plan, whereas the Foxtel Ultimate Bundle, which includes movies and sports, is $49 a month over 12 months, and the high definition sports bundle is $59.20 a month.
When Cricket Australia considered the offer from Paramount and compared it with Foxtel and Seven’s reach and proven track record in live sport production, the choice was obvious.
