Here's what happened when a farmer left a camera by his watering trough in a drought-stricken region. 9News

Thirsty native animals in search of a drink have flocked to a water trough on a farm in drought-stricken NSW.

From parrots and lorikeets to goannas and even echidnas – all kinds of creatures have been filmed seeking out water as dams run dry., an emu farm at the base of the Warrumbungle Mountains in NSW said he didn't expect such a great number of animals would be paying them a visit."Initially we put the camera on to catch some feral animals," Phil told nine.com.au.

The large trough, which sits in the middle of their 500-hectare property alongside a creek that dried up "years ago", has even had kangaroos hopping by, as well as "at least" three different goannas. "There appears to be a lot of parrots in the morning, we've seen rosellas, ring necks, honey eaters, butcher birds," Phil said. The most fascinating was an echidna stopping by for a drink.

"But we don't seem to get any birds of prey coming in. We have other troughs out further where the stock drinks, bigger birds and kangaroos drink out there."
