Craig Laundy, who quit the ministry after the ouster of Malcolm Turnbull, becomes the latest Coalition MP to walk ahead of the election.
Craig Laundy has cut a lonely figure on the backbench since September, and after months of silence he has finally announced he is quitting federal politics at the next election. He entered Parliament in 2013 when Tony Abbott came to powerMr Laundy holds the Sydney electorate of Reid, a vulnerable seat for the Coalition, sitting on a margin of 4.7 per cent.
He has recently taken time away from his electoral duties to help care for his mother, who is battling serious ill health. Some members of the Liberals had been demanding Mr Laundy show his hand and declare his intentions for the next election, to give a new candidate time to bed down support in the key seat in Sydney's inner-western suburbs.Mr Laundy joins former deputy leader Julie Bishop and ministers Kelly O'Dwyer, Christopher Pyne, Michael Keenan, Nigel Scullion and Steve Ciobo in quitting politics.
