Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has asserted her support for a major defence expo being held in Melbourne this week and sent a message to the thousands of residents planning to protest outside the event.
'Good for our economy': Vic Premier spruiks benefits of Land Forces expo to Melbourne as she issues stern message to protesters
According to organisers, it will be"the largest defence industry event ever held in Australia", with 995 exhibiting organisations in Melbourne from 31 nations. "It's good for our economy, it's good for local jobs. And that's why anyone who's looking to cause trouble, looking to do disruptive things like block traffic or threaten community safety, they will be dealt with swiftly by Victoria Police."
"It could be really, really big. I mean, we've been comparing it to potential World Economic Forum which we had in 2000, which saw significant protests," Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton told 3AW last month.
