A southern Tasmanian woman who stole $940,000 from her employer to fund a gambling addiction has broken into tears after being sentenced to six years' jail for a "very serious case of fraud".The court heard Perri had been diagnosed with severe gambling disorderRachel Naomi Perri, 49, previously pleaded guilty to 25 counts of computer-related fraud and one count of fraud.
The court heard Perri had transferred money from the practice into bank accounts in her name to fund her participation in an online gambling game that is similar to a poker machine but does not pay out real money. Justice Jago said she accepted the opinion of psychiatrist Michael Jordan who diagnosed Perri with severe gambling disorder.
