Irish nurse Mary Ellen Molloy died after a car she was travelling in was crushed by a tree branch in South Melbourne.

Ms Molloy was rushed to hospital after the accident but died. Her friend, a 25-year-old St Kilda woman, suffered head and back injuries but is in a stable condition in the Royal Melbourne Hospital.Ms Molloy was originally from the small town of Ardara in Ireland's north and was a nurse at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, which released a statement on Saturday night calling her death a 'heartbreaking loss'.
"Mary Ellen was a beautiful girl with a permanent smile who lit up every room she walked into," said the C.L.G. Ard an Rátha club on Facebook. A Department of Transport spokesman said they were "working closely with Victoria Police to investigate the factors that contributed to the incident".
