Five of Australia's leading universities have ranked dangerously low in the Times Higher Education's 2025 global ranking indicating a major drop in both teaching and research.

'Serious warning signs': Five of Australia's elite universities place dangerously low in global ranking

The global comparison of 2860 universities is based on the performance indicators of research, impact and teaching. The University of Sydney fell into third place in Australia but 61 in the global charts, followed by the Australian National University at 73 after announcing a deficit of up to $250 million to get the institution on a"sustainable footing".
