NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard slams Queensland's requirement for incoming travellers to get tested for COVID-19, saying it's putting unnecessary stress on his state's testing capacity.

A Queensland government spokesperson said the number of people getting a PCR test in NSW to enter Queensland was around 10 per cent of total daily tests.

She said authorities were being "pretty consistent" in applying the rules but to "ask the police" about how they were making those decisions. But police say that in exceptional circumstances it will be up to the individual emergency officer to decide whether a person without a negative test result can enter Queensland and quarantine until they received it.

There are long queues at testing clinics around the country and people have reported waiting up to five days for results. "We spent a few hours there and had our test only to be told that there's a four to five-day turnaround time on the results coming in.""They said the place was closed, and it was closed at 8am, which was an hour before it opened.Mr Munro said it had been a "logistical nightmare to try and get back into Queensland when there's no possible solution for us to comply with all of the requirements to get back in".

The family's dog, Coco, was in Queensland alone and she was worried about her running out of food and water.
